A gift from a friend today:

The cookies were good!  Came from a French pastry chef in Palm Beach.

  1. Aren't you lucky! They look yummy, but more American than French.

I gave my boys an extra treat after dinner-noms. They are heart-shaped.

  2. Poor Jubilee didn't get anything good today - I was gone most of the day and into the evening so she didn't even get any table scraps :-(.

The little French sidewalk restaurant in Palm Beach is run by a French couple. It's a breakfast/lunch place. They make crepes, soups, sandwiches and pastries and things like that. The husband is doing mostly catering now, since he is the serious French chef and the wife and a friend are running the little restaurant. So it's not exactly a French pastry shop, but we call it that because they always have yummy cookies there. My friends who live in Palm Beach gave these cookies to me today. They were not at all heavy and with just a hint of sweetness.

  3. Sounds like one of the pastry shops along Monkland Avenue in my quartier where you can get a baguette sandwich, coffee and a pastry for lunch. Those cookies look huge and that is why I thought they looked more supersized American. Some of the local pastries here have names like Religieuse (nun) or Jesuite. Decidedly sinful. Last month I went in to buy some bread and a pithivier, an almond-flavoured galette (they don't call it a gateau) with a "bean" baked inside for Epiphany. The one who finds the "bean" in their slice gets to wear a crown. Frankly, I wanted to get the crown to put on my boys, but never got around to it.
