The Housatonic River. The river's name comes from the Mohican phrase "usi-a-di-en-uk", translated as "beyond the mountain place".
Little island in the river ...
There are several places to sit and view the river, but the best is a little meditation chair that David put down on the ledge ...
In the afternoon, John, Joan, Jubilee, David and I went to the next town over - Washington CT - for a hike along the Shephaug River. David says that Alexander Calder had his workshop in Washington. I can tell that this is a "gentrified" rural area.
There are many trees down from the ice storm that came through just before Halloween.
After that we came back to the New Milford and sat around. David built a big fire and Hank went out and got Mexican food for us.
Then the funniest thing happened. Jubilee, who usually sleeps right next to our bed, especially when we are traveling, went into the little computer room, hopped up onto the french bed, and went right to sleep. When I got up in the night to go to the bathroom, she was still there.
Next morning - Sunday - there was a beautiful sunrise over the river. I was up to see it! At first the fog was so dense that it looked like the view from an airplane ...
Even from inside, we are above the cloud ...
Jubilee watches the whole thing. She did, indeed, love this house.
Meanwhile, David has been heating the pool for a couple of days and it is now 82 degrees!
Jubilee is very cautious at first. She knows it's a pool, but can't quite figure out whether it is like an outside pool.
David tries to coax her in, but she just excitedly runs around and around.
Finally she makes her lunge ...
And from here on, she swims and swims and swims. John thinks she is the first dog ever in this pool (that Frank Sinatra has swum in).
Also enjoying the pool cleaning routine ...
What a wonderful and special place!
What a gorgeous home! Jubilee has great taste.
ReplyDeleteI think Jubilee loved the windows and the way the house was encased in nature. She could watch everything going on outside. Whenever I opened the door for her, she was off to check out something (probably a squirrel) that she had seen from the window. She also likes to settle into the ambiance of a lot of people talking - and a lot of that happened there. This was our 2nd time visiting the New Milford house- we were there 4 years ago as well.
