Genesee Riverwalk

I found out that I could walk a bridge across the Genesee River to the University of Rochester.  Whenever I am on a college campus I reminisce about college days.  Perhaps everyone does this.  I think that I was born about 20 years too soon.  When I was in college we didn't use bikes, have computers (or even calculators), and I don't remember anyone using a backpack.  All that was just around the corner.  I think everyone, at the age of 50+, should be offered the chance to go back to a university for 2 years to study whatever they want.

lunch

I'm playing nurse today, and picked up lunch at the little African-Caribbean store across the street.  Fish soup and goat curry.  The fish soup was the best, too much salt on the goat.  Plantains were good too.

Rainy morning in Rochester

More views from the window and the Genesee River in the morning.

The Genesee and Joanne's garden

This is the Genesee River as it runs through Rochester, and outside the hotel where I am staying tonight.  It is the same river that runs through Wellsville.

After we left my sister at the hospital, where she wanted to sleep, Joe and I had to take her car to John and Joanne's house.  (I think I left my cell phone in the car, which will be an issue I have to deal with tomorrow; my God, why do I keep losing that damn thing?)  Joanne wanted to show us her garden...

And what would be scattered around in her garden but a lot of wine bottles and a few liquor bottles!

Have you ever seen such a thing?!
Joanne assured me that they were there to water the garden when they were away.  They filled them up with water and stuck them in the ground and the ground got just the right amount of water.  She told me that my Italian husband would understand.

There was also a nice sunflower that wasn't even planted, just appeared ...

I admit that I had a couple of glasses of wine before we went to the garden, but I still don't quite get it.

Rochester, part 1

I’m in Rochester NY now.  I drove from Cranberry TWP to be with my sister who had surgery this morning.  The above photo is the view from the hospital window.

I picked up a grande Latte at Starbucks and headed north at around 8:30 this morning.  Somehow I picked up a Catholic station on the radio - WAOB-FM.  I don’t know that I’ve ever heard a Catholic radio station.  Anyway, there was Mass at 8:30, a talk by a retired archbishop of New Orleans, and  a lecture about the Church Fathers.  About that time the signal became too weak to pick up anymore.  Interestingly, I was driving through a rather thick fog while I was listening to the Catholic radio station.

Then there were vineyards, signs for Niagara Falls, and northern farmland.  I find it amusing that I am driving I-90, the northernmost interstate.  Lots of tall, tall evergreen trees.  No photos of this lovely land :-(.  It's too hard to drive and take photos.

I haven’t seen much of Rochester yet, since I came directly to the hospital.  My sister is fine, looks good, and is getting morphine now for pain and sleeping through it!  Joe went to buy a suit.

(Jubilee didn’t have to go to a kennel after all.  The kennel I picked out for her was all booked for the rest of the summer so I looked around for dog-walkers.  The professional ones never called me back and then I found a 13-year old boy - Cody - who lives just a few doors away.  He’s walking and playing ball with her while I’m away.)
