- a pint of edamame (soy beans), heirloom tomatoes and Roma tomatoes from Nu Way Farm;
- Weeping Willow Farm will send ears sweet corn and red Carmen peppers;
- the first pears of the season from Dawson's Orchards;
- flat parsley from Goose Creek Gardens;
- green beans from the Hostetler's Farm; and
- cipollini onions from the Crighton's Farm
(For some reason, John had to get that Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald beer in the picture).
Meanwhile, over at Knob Hill, there are signs of autumn down at the ground cover level.
We'll be off to Staten Island tomorrow for the marriage of our son this weekend, so probably no updates here until next week. We're taking the pears from the CSA box with us!
Edamame! Love them just boiled in salted water and eaten from the pods. It is what the Japanese snack on while drinking beer. You can salt them after cooking, if you like. Shelled, they are good in salads.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on Staten Island. It is what the Japanese call a shimaguni, an island nation. Very insular. Be pushy, you may make a friend.
By the way, you might consider taking the Outerbridge Crossing instead of the Goethals and the Expressway across the island. It is more convenient to the end of the island where the church is. I always took the Outerbridge when visiting Staten Island from Montreal.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip about the edames. Will try that next week.
ReplyDeletePushy. I will remember that!
Please give my love to Eric and his bride! I willl be thinking of them.
ReplyDeleteOk, Sally. Thank you for your friendship!
