somewhat rainy; somewhat cooler

It was a somewhat rainy weekend.  We went to a neighbor's birthday party and hiked around in Knob Hill Park.  John and I both agree that it is about the sweetest little park we've found in all the USA.  Where else can you be virtually alone, walk with your dog unleashed, and feel embraced by wilderness all while not getting off the beaten path?  Plus, as John notes, the shade takes 10 degrees off of a hot summer day.

Wildflowers are still blooming.
I liked this imprint of Jubilee's paws on the rock.
Looks like a lot of people are tuning 60 these days.  We were honored to be invited to a neighbor's party.  We're "local" now!
Though it looks like leaves are falling in places, it is more from a mold that is growing on the leaves than cold.  But it is getting a little cooler.  Sometimes it is in the 50s in the morning so that I need a light jacket.

  1. The fungus has hit our Norway maples up here, too. It doesn't kill the tree, however, and it seems to be gone the next year. We have had rain and somewhat less hot weather here lately, too. I think our colleges are beginning their year again today -- only for staff, though. Autumn is just around the corner. You inspire me to explore the small nature parks that exist on Montreal island.

  2. I bet there are some really good ones in Montreal as well. I've always loved the St. Lawrence Seaway - I'd look for some waterway parks there. It's really the right time of year to be out walking now too - not too hot and not too cold.

This idea of dramatic season change "just around the corner" is exciting in a way that you don't experience living in Florida.

  3. Most are on the other side of the island of Montreal, the back river side, la riviere des prairies. They are havens for waterbirds.

  4. It sounds wonderful, Barbara, like a place along the Mississippi near St. Louis. Can you get there with public transportation?

  5. There are two that seem interesting Parc-Nature de l'Ile de la Visitation and Parc-Nature du Cap St Jacques. Both can be reached by public transit, but they take 65 minutes and 111 minutes (plus 1 km walk) to get there. I'd sooner drive, frankly.
