cold and snowy

8:30AM, Tuesday.  Cold and snowy here, like every where else.  12 degrees with serious wind.  I can't even get the door open to the balcony.  It's frozen shut.

  1. The Angel Ray came by today and removed the snow in front of my car shelter (we call the tempos after the ubiquitous company name in driveways around the city, although mine is not from that company). I gave him a little extra because I did not have change, so he said he would do it for free next time. He's a sweet, slow, sad sack of an angel who needs dental work.

  2. Angel Ray sounds very interesting to me.

Meanwhile, I am learning the ways of cold weather. I ventured to the grocery store today - nobody else seemed intimidated by the roads but me. I found out that the doors to my car didn't open! When I finally got one door open, the car started, but the windshield wipers were frozen. And all that snow and ice all over everything!

Despite all this, I'm still thrilled with winter!

  3. Get an ice scraper, the kind with a brass blade - they are the most efficient in removing ice and you can slide it along the wiper edge to clear off ice there too. Once you get a working strategy, everything will go smooth. Of course, you may be gone by then!

  4. I think I need a brush too, Larry. There is always so much snow on the hood. I just get the windows clear enough so that I can drive, and then when I start driving all the snow on the hood blows up on the windshield! I'll look for a brass blade too. So far all I have is this little cheap plastic thing. I think I need some new gloves too. I'm getting it!! Actually, today the wiper fluid starting squirting after I'd been driving for awhile. It probably just had to warm up some.

  5. Yep....there is a winter version of wiper fluid that has a lower freezing point and will help melt off ice. Usually the winter version is all you will find in the winter months. You can buy a gallon just about anywhere.
