weekend in NY

[Correction: John's grandfather is ANTHONY Napolitano (not Joseph)]

I know, I'm behind.

The weekend in NY was fast but enjoyable.  The funeral of Aunt Mil was actually a celebration of her life and her family (of which we are a part).   Lots of Italian feasting.  There was no snow, and the sun was mostly out.

This is John checking out the backyard oven that was built by his grandfather, Anthony Napalitano.  John remembered if from when he was 5 years old and wanted to see if it was still standing.  Says that his grandfather stored his jug of wine there.
This is the view from Ooma and Oompa's 6th floor apartment.  That's the Manhattan skyline in the distance.  Because the apartment was so hot (heated), we kept the window wide open.  I would wake up in the middle of the night to look out the window at NYC.  I wish that we could have gotten down there, but there wasn't time.
And Oompa having Cheerios for breakfast.

We did take a walk down to the Davenport Park.  Cold but clear!

Meanwhile, back in Cranberry TWP, it's still snowing every day and looks like Siberia.  The locals say that we get the "lake effect".   They keep the roads very clear and Jubilee seems to like it.  She always has her nose down in the snow.

  1. Ah yes, the lake effect ... that's pretty wicked. We had a larger than anticipated dump of snow yesterday, a real storm with lots of wind and badly messed up traffic. It is quieter now, but the winds still are stirring up the snow. I called the car shelter dudes and they will be adjust the shelter to cover the rear of my car probably next week. They haven't even covered all their shelters with plastic yet!!! I'll have to go out and shove some snow away from the driveway. The sidewalk plowing tractors and the city workers plow the snow up on the sides of the street, blocking passage out. All is clean and white and difficult to navigate.

  2. The people here at the apartment have the parking lot cleared by 6AM every day, which is kind of amazing since there is about 1 inch of new snow every morning. I've gotten used to brushing the snow and scraping the ice off of my car, but am still a little reluctant to drive on anything that doesn't look like clean asphalt. As for the cold, I've found out that if you dress right, it's glorious. Jubilee never wants to come inside, she gets so excited with the cold. Think I'm going to venture over to the park with her this afternoon, and let her have at it!

  4. A fellow showed up at my door as I was planning to go out and shovel the foot high compacted snow in front of my car shelter. He asked if he could do the job and I accepted with great relief. This is a first time, to my recollection.

  5. Thank you God, for those who shovel the snow! :-) P.S. John is curious about this car shelter that you have, that is covered in plastic. Is it like a bubble shelter?, he asks.

  6. We have no shelters at all for our cars this winter. At work, yesterday, one of his co-workers had a remote car starter. From the building he clicked it, and out in the parking lot his car started. It would be all warmed up by the time he got there.
